The first thing you need to know about the SillySot Software-developed application Iconoid is what it can do for you. There is no simple explanation here – because Iconoid can do several things.

When you change your monitor’s resolution, your desktop icons will get jumbled around. You can prevent this from happening by using Iconoid. The application will save the location of all your icons for individual screen resolutions. You can use Iconoid to ensure that icons do not move at all when you change the screen resolution.

Speaking of icons, you can use Iconoid to automatically hide icons when you do need to see them – then have then show up again when you do need them. You can also change the color of the icon text, remove the colored box behind icon text, or set the colored box behind the text to an optimal color for your desktop image.

Last but not least, you can use Iconoid to minimize all open windows and view your wallpaper. As a little side note, you can also achieve this by using a desktop shortcut: Start + D (which will minimize everything and display the desktop) or Start + M (which will simply minimize all open apps).

Should you decide to get Iconoid, there are a few technical details you might want to know. Like the fact that the download weighs in at some 600KB, so it should complete in no time at all. Or the fact that the application needs to be installed on top of the Microsoft-developed Windows operating system – works fine with XP and Vista, not with Windows 7. But this is something that SillySot Software said will address in the future. Last but not least you may want to know that Iconoid is freeware.
